Pizza jokes are so cheeeesy 🍕
If you were to ask any Polish native what their favourite takeaway was, around 50% would say pizza. But this is not your typical takeaway experience of an Italian classic, but like most things, a Polish interpretation of this delicious treat.
Let’s start off with the base. The thicker the better. You need a solid foundation, just like a house, to hold all the wonderful toppings. A thin layer of tomato sauce is matched with your favourite toppings BUT hold the cheese.
Our favourite combo is chicken, broccoli, onion and sweetcorn. Broccoli I hear you say ... although it makes you feel better to have green on a takeaway, it adds a really fresh element that we really recommend. NOW it’s time for cheese. It is layered on top like a cheesy blanket to keep all the little crumbs and toppings in their place.
It then needs to be completely smothered in a layer of ketchup and the most garlicky of garlic sauces, as the cherry on top of this savoury cake. The garlic is approximately 10x stronger in flavour than any UK sauce. You need to taste garlic for the next 8 hours, and wake up throughout the night to drink litres of fluid to soothe your dry mouth, or something to help with the heartburn. But just like childbirth, you’ll forget the pain until each time you enjoy this treat.
To make this at home, we use garlic flat breads, found in most supermarkets. We then add a layer of chopped onion, sweet corn, diced garlic and slices of Polish sausage then bake till brown. Then you’re going to add your cheese slices straight on top and bake until it resembles a bubbly cheesy jacuzzi.
But go crazy with your sauces and toppings. Anything baked onto garlic bread is a winner.
