#Dinner : ~ 475 kcal ~ ••• Heute gab es mal ein etwas anderes Abendbrot bei Burger King. Wir waren nämlich heute Nachmittag noch im Einkaufszentrum unterwegs. Creamy Sweet Potato Bake 🍠 { THIS. is an ABSOLUTE show-stopper! Looks more complicated than it really is...so this will totally impress your guests! You'll just need a sharp mandoline, and all the freshest, highest quality ingredients. It's sweet without adding any sugar, and creamy without adding any dairy, and a just tiny bit savory thanks to the onions and garlic.} . . makes about 5 servings Ingredients: 2 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced using a mandoline (tip: choose potatoes that are very similar in size/shape) 1 Tbsp olive oil 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped 3 fresh garlic cloves, minced or pressed 1 cup organic, unsweetened canned coconut milk 1 tsp smoked paprika 2 tsp gluten free flour sea salt and fresh ground black pepper, to your taste 1 Tbsp fresh chopped parsley 1 Tbsp sliced chives as garnish Instructions: Preheat your oven 350 degrees f. Heat the oil in a medium skillet, over medium-high heat. Add the onion and saute until it softens, about 3 minutes, then add garlic and saute another minute or two. Meanwhile, in a small bowl whisk together coconut milk, paprika, and gluten free flour. Pour the coconut mixture over the onions in the pan, then whisk to combine. Lower the heat to a simmer and cook stirring frequently, until the sauce begins to thicken, about 2-3 minutes. Pour the coconut sauce in the bottom of a 8 x 8 oven dish, then layer the sweet potato slices on as shown. Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes in your preheated oven. Then, uncover the dish, bake for an and additional 12-15 minutes, until the potatoes are fork tender and golden-crispy-browned on top. Garnish with fresh chopped chives and parsley and serve. When you’ve no idea what to cook for dinner but have a craving for vegetables, the best thing to make is my version of @thebodycoach veggie parmigiana....I call it my version as clearly I can’t read instructions and chopped all the vegetables rather than sliced them so it’s more like a hot cheesy ratatouille! It was very tasty though so my error didn’t turn out too badly! Lately I haven’t been making the best choices of food and wellness - call it summer life or laziness or being ‘too busy’ - either way it’s been affecting my mood and how I see myself. So I re-downloaded the popular lifestyle tracking app MyFitnessPal to try get some sort of handle or visibility to what I’m doing. I do like it because I’m much more conscious and trying to plan better for meals. Through my learning on route to becoming a Registered Holistic Nutrionist, I’m a bit torn with my opinion of this app. I’m not overweight (re: my previous post to see) and my weight loss goal is not outrageous — 8-12 lbs over the next couple months. I have chosen this because I know I need to eat healthier and be more active and I believe making these simple changes will be achievable but I need to be committed. I put in my height, age, weight, activity level (set at active), goal weight and end date/timeframe into the profile... and - here’s my concern, I’m given 1,240 calories/day!! The average calorie intake for women is 1,800-2,200 per day... so I’m given 560 calories less than the low end of average. I tried this for the first couple days and by noon I had pretty much used up my allotted calories - I was hungry and grumpy and constantly thinking about/obsessing over what I’d eat and how many calories it would be. At this moment, I realized this isn’t going to be successful and I’ll be miserable at only 1200-1300 calories. So I have re-evaluated my plan. First, I am going to track what I eat to make me aware of my tendencies and current habits. Granted I am making better decisions/going back to making conscious decisions of what to eat so I am already doing better than I was. Next, I will determine my average calories per day and activity level and reduce by 300-500 calories to start and reevaluate and adjust as needed. I’ve realized how easy it is to set yourself up for failure when trying to lose weight. Apps like this are viewed as healthy and informed so people trust them with their wellness when there are many other aspects and factors that need to be considered to be successful. #weightloss #caloriecounting #fitnesstracker @nutraphoria

Tonight’s snack is this @lidlgb salted caramel and praline ice cream 🍨 . ✅ 367 calories for half a tub . I made my way to the ice cream section in Lidl to get my usual low calorie ice cream fix, when I saw this “normal” ice cream... it looked delicious and the calories weren’t too bad really, so I thought I’d give it a go. . This was a really milky ice cream with salted caramel sauce and delicious caramelised pecans throughout. It had such a gorgeous toffee flavour and I could definitely taste the salted caramel and praline in distinct flavours. It was almost a caramelised taste and reminded me of a really sweet cereal (golden grahams in particular), that sounds so random but it’s the taste I got. The pecans have such a destinct taste and really so give a praline feel. . The mixture of textures in the smooth sauce and crunchy pecans was incredible. The ice cream wasn’t icy or thawed in any way, which meant the smooth, creamy texture was perfected. . I’d highly recommend this delicious ice cream! I can’t wait to pick up another tub! . ✅ Snack rating: 9.5/10

This is purely a commentary on marketing tricks.⠀ ⠀ So with that said - here's another perfect example of how marketing and bollocks diet culture will mess with your head. On the left we have a "high protein", "healthy" cookie. On the right we have the "junk food" cookie that's the sole reason for our obesity epidemic and will give you the diabeetus. ⠀ ⠀ What makes the protein cookie the healthy option? Their advertising and marketing campaign. That's literally it. The cookie is also super clever by saying it has 16g of protein, but that's for the whole cookie, while the calories are reported per half cookie. (the figures above are for the whole thing FYI).⠀ ⠀ The joke is - if you had someone struggling to lose weight who was eating a protein cookie everyday, and swapped that for a Dominoes cookie - they'd save 200-ish calories and see some weight loss 🤷🏼 Because calories matter for weight loss, no matter what buzzwords the marketing department throw on the label, or what Sue in finance told you.⠀ ⠀ Truth is - both of these are pretty shitty options. Yes, even the higher protein one. And I know people will say "protein is important for fat loss". Trust me, you can get 16g of protein and a cookie for less than 400 calories. Hell you'll get more protein from a shake and a Dominoes cookie while still saving 100 calories.⠀ ⠀ What's important - and the only takeaway here - is that you need to be aware of what you're eating. "High protein" doesn't make it a better option. You shouldn't automatically look for a "better" alternative to foods you enjoy - stay within your calories, get adequate protein and enjoy your food. That's it.⠀

#DINNER . @aldiuk chicken on croute, spinach, cucumber, baby plum tomatoes and @skinnyfoodco BBQ sauce. Absolutely over the moon to have received an email from the ACCA to invite me to an awards ceremony after receiving the highest mark in both my P2 paper which I sat in June 2018 and my recent SBL paper which I got my results for in July! I am so proud of myself! . I managed to challenge myself to a snack again this afternoon, and even chose a higher calorie protein bar which I have been avoiding in the afternoon due to the fear of being too full for dinner and the fact that it is much larger and something that I would normally save for my night snack. Also, knowing that I had this meal planned for dinner tonight which is quite high in calories made me want to compensate throughout the day to 'allow' for a higher calorie dinner. However, when I opened my drawer at work, I was really fancying a chocolatey treat and I knew that I loved those protein bars. Whilst I was eating it and afterwards I couldn't stop shaking with anxiety and my heart was beating so fast! Luckily this has now released and I feel much better and relaxed. It just goes to show that you just need to bite the bullet and go for it. The point of consuming food is to remain alive. The point of controlling our intake of food is to manage our physique and overall health. The point of consuming fewer calories is to reduce body fat across our composition. But one constant in all of the above should be our enjoyment of the food we eat. - - @thefitnesschef_ When an individual embarks on fat loss, each of the above are important. One must enjoy their energy consumption, be aware of energy intake in relation to their energy output, and consistently ensure that they are in a state of caloric deficit. To ensure progress, one may have to change and adjust their dietary habits. But instead of completely radicalising the diet, adherence to change may be more likely if one makes subtle changes over time. For example: consuming the same volume of lower calorie foods and drinks that replicate higher the calorie versions in experience. - This graphic shows two groups of foods/drinks. One group contains over double the calorie amount of the other, yet quantity of both remains the same (apart from the freddo). Crucially, the lower calorie versions resemble the same palatable offering as their higher calorie counterparts (or at least very similar). - - Whilst consumption of lower calorie versions may not be immediately significant, they can be over a period of time. For example, if one swapped daily consumption of 300ml of whole milk for semi skimmed milk for 1 year, they would consume 17520 fewer calories whilst the ‘milk experience’ is minimally compromised. - - We must make such choices with the knowledge that lower calorie items may contain less of a particular macronutrient. And in the case of low calorie beverages, awareness that sweeteners are included. - - Losing fat is not straightforward. It requires a change of habits.
