Morning Meltdown has helped me lose weight, lose inches, get stronger, get my heart in shape, and also increased my flexibility!!!! I was doing Freestyle Flow tonight and was feeling so flexible that I decided to stretch out into a split. When I was 15 I decided to try out for a dance team that required splits. I practiced daily so I vowed I would never let my splits completely go. How much cardio should you be doing⁉️⠀ ⠀ This post is motivated by the increase in people I have seen on the treadmills lately.. And the weight room being EMPTY!⠀ ⠀ So let’s chat about it..⠀ ⠀ Adding cardio into a routine is simply a TOOL. If you want to burn body fat, your body has to be in a calorie deficit - that can be done by consuming LESS calories or BURNING more calories. Adding cardio into a routine is a way to burn more calories to create more of a deficit.⠀ ⠀ Like I mentioned yesterday, our bodies are very adaptive, so if you start out by doing a bunch of cardio, your body will ADAPT. Meaning the only way to keep progressing is to do MORE cardio.⠀ ⠀ If your goal is weight/fat loss, something that will help instead of doing endless cardio is working towards building more lean muscle mass. Muscle is the driving factor of your metabolism, so the more muscle you have the more calories your body will burn in a day and the easier it will be to burn body fat 🔥⠀ ⠀ More muscle will also help give you the shapely, toned look that I would say most people are after. You will not get toned by doing endless cardio and the stairmaster will not ‘build your booty’ 🙅🏽‍♀️⠀ ⠀ So what I recommend is starting with consistent weight training regimen of 4-5 days a week plus 2-3 sessions of low intensity steady state (LISS) cardio. Legit just walk for 10-15 minutes more a day to start out with. Things that don’t make any sense, part one: 🤷‍♀️ . Basing your caloric intake on an average or macro calculator (MyFitnessPal’s or those silly equations) . Let’s think for a minute 🤔 . The average female is 5’4”.... . Let’s say we have a room of 4 females and they need pants. Their heights are 5’1”, 5’9”, 5’3”, and 5’5” . If we made pants for the average height, we’d make them for a height of 5’4”.....but guess what!? ⁉️ . We just made pants that actually fit NO ONE perfectly . It’s one of the newer eating strategies and is getting more popular. Do I recommend it? Not really. It’s a much more advanced method than most other strategies and requires strict tracking and constant modifications along the way. There are endless variations for every goal and unless you really know your body and are very good at tracking, you’ll have trouble sustaining it . That being said, some people respond very well to it so I made some basic guidelines to follow if you really want to give it a shot and see how your body responds . To lose fat, you need to eat less than you burn and you want enough protein. The low carb days will amplify your caloric deficit and the high carb days will give you energy to workout and allow you to enjoy more carbs (make it more sustainable) 👍🏼 - Make sure you keep your protein around 1 g/ lb of BW and vary your fat vs. carb levels : Try to get 2 of your workouts in on the high carb days . Gaining muscle while carb cycling. Here you need to be in a «gentle» caloric surplus. Still get in that 1 g of protein/ lb of BW and allow the fat and carb levels to fluctuate. Again, try to get your workouts in on high carb days . Please keep in mind that there are MANY variations of carb cycling. Some stagger high/low/no carb days and some have low/no carb days stacked together. Unless you are extremely advanced, don’t worry about this stuff at all. Didn't get enough protein in today so I made this killer shake: goat kefir, fish gelatin collagen peptides, frozen banana, cocoa powder, maple syrup. The kefir makes it a little bit tart but I needed the protein so it was fine. Not as nice as yesterday's but not bad. I still haven't figured out how to get all the protein I need in. This shake has 37 grams of protein in it! That's amazing! A lot of people think they have “a slow metabolism” or “metabolic damage” because they put themself on a low calorie diet, but their weight stays the same... leading them believe it’s a metabolism issue because they aren’t losing weight like they hope 🤷🏼‍♀️🤔 BUT, there can sometimes be a huge difference between the amount of calories we aim to eat a day, and the amount of calories we end up eating by the end of the week 😫🤦🏼‍♀️ If we aim for 1500 calories a day, but only stick to that 4 days a week, and then over eat the other 3, when we work out our weekly average calorie intake, the number is often a lot higher than our targeted 1500 a day... And if you find you’re in this sort of cycle and you’re maintaining your weight, that’s actually a good thing!
