Five months ago, I watched millions of Hong Kong People took to the streets and matched for their future weekend after weekend. Now 5 months later, I watched a place I loved and grew up in descend into chaos. For the last week, I watched HK Police lay siege to several different Universities in HK. Launching hundreds of less lethal munitions at protesters, dispensing wood shampoo at otherwise peaceful protestors and passerby.
Now, the Hong Kong Police have laid seige to Hong Kong Polytechnic University for over 48 hours, not allowing anyone to leave. Last Wills and Testiments were written. They said goodbyes to their families, assuming their families haven't disowned them for participating in the protest.
Are you willing to stand up for what you believe in? Even if it means getting disowned by your own family, politically motivated prosecution, torture, serious bodily induries and even death.
I will be honest, if someone would ask me back in May if I foresee the situation in HK will deteriorate to the current state, I will think you are crazy.
For decades, through the stubbornness, perseverance and optimism through rough times, the people of Hong Kong worked together to turn an unknown corner of the Earth into the booming metropolis of today. As someone who is part of the Hong Kong Story, I am proud to have called Hong Kong home. I am proud to be a Hong-Konger.
